What the price covers

What you get for your money

An EV charger install is mostly the bits you cannot see once it is finished. Here is what we do on every one.

    A proper survey before we quote

    We check the supply, the main fuse and the earthing arrangement first. That is what decides whether the job is straightforward or needs extra work, and it is the bit cheap quotes leave out.

  • 02

    Neat cable runs

    Cable clipped straight, along the line of the brickwork, through the loft or under the drive if that is what keeps it tidy. Nobody wants a cable draped across the front of the house.

  • 03

    Its own protected circuit

    A dedicated circuit from the board with the right RCD protection, plus PEN fault protection so no earth rod is needed on most homes.

  • 04

    Tested, certified and registered

    Full test results, an installation certificate, and the charger registered with the manufacturer so your warranty and app work from day one.

  • 05

    Set up before we leave

    App installed, connected to your WiFi or the charger's own 4G, tariff set, and a run through with you until it makes sense.

  • 06

    Someone to ring afterwards

    If it plays up in six months you get Bailey, not a call centre. That is the whole point of using a local sparky.

Ohme ePod EV charger

The compact untethered option

Ohme ePod

7.4kW · Untethered

A small untethered unit that takes your own cable. Same Ohme smart-tariff support as the Home Pro in a more discreet box, so it suits a front elevation or a tight wall.

  • Untethered, so nothing hangs on the wall between charges and any cable fits
  • One of the smallest units on the market, about the size of a paperback
  • Talks directly to Intelligent Octopus Go, EDF and other smart tariffs
  • Solar compatible, so with a supported inverter it can favour the hours your panels are producing
  • Built-in PEN fault protection, no separate earth rod needed on most homes
  • 3 year manufacturer warranty

Best for: Front elevations and tight walls, where a tethered cable would be in the way.

Built-in screen, its own 4G connection and the best smart-tariff support of any charger we fit. If you are on Intelligent Octopus Go or similar, this is the one that will save you the most.

The longest tether of the three

Hypervolt

7.4kW · Tethered, 5m, 7.5m or 10m

The one to pick when the parking space is a long way from the wall. A tether up to 10m, and a choice of white, black or grey so it can be made to disappear against the house.

  • Tether in 5m, 7.5m or 10m, the longest of the three chargers we fit
  • Cable stays on the unit, so there is nothing to fetch from the boot in the rain
  • White, black or grey, so it can be matched to the wall rather than stuck on it
  • Solar compatible with the Hypervolt solar sensor added, so surplus from the panels goes to the car instead of the grid
  • Built-in PEN fault protection, no separate earth rod needed on most homes
  • 3 year manufacturer warranty

Best for: The longest tether, and anyone who wants the unit to match the wall colour.

Questions

The things people ask us

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Most home installs are done in half a day. If the cable run is long, the board needs work first, or the supply has to be upgraded, we tell you that at the quote stage rather than on the day.

Do I need off-street parking?

Yes. The cable cannot cross a public footpath, so the parking space has to be yours: a drive, garage, or allocated parking you own. If you are in a flat with allocated parking we can usually still help, it just needs a look first.

Which charger should I get?

If you are on a smart tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go, the Ohme Home Pro talks to it directly and will save you the most. If the parking space is a long way from the wall, the Hypervolt comes with a tether up to 10m. If you would rather nothing was left hanging on the wall, the untethered Ohme ePod takes your own cable. Say "advise me" on the form and we will tell you straight.

Will my fuse box need upgrading?

Not always. A charger needs its own protected way in the board. If there is no spare capacity, or the board is an old rewireable one, we will price the upgrade separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Do you charge for the quote?

No. Fill the form in, or ring us, and you get a price with no obligation and nobody chasing you afterwards.

Tethered or untethered?

Tethered means the cable is attached to the charger, so you pull it off the wall and plug in. Untethered means you keep your own cable in the boot and plug it into the unit. Tethered is quicker day to day, untethered leaves nothing hanging on the wall and takes any cable. The Hypervolt has the longest tether at 10m, the Ohme Home Pro comes in 5m or 8m, and the Ohme ePod is the untethered one.

What decides the price?

The charger you pick, how far the unit is from the fuse board, and whether the board has a spare way for it. A short run onto the wall behind the board is the cheap end. A long run round the house to a detached garage, or a board that needs upgrading first, costs more. You get one fixed price before we start and it does not move unless you change what you want.
